Dues Time Again

We hope you have had a great year enjoying the night sky’s of Southern Illinois. Over the last year, we have had numerous technical presentations at our old haunt, Paglai’s Pizza in Carbondale, as well as numerous Public Viewings (such as Blue Sky, Alto Pass, Jacob with Adler, Murphysboro STEM Project, Giant City, Carterville Library and more). We hope you have had as much fun as Harry and Jan, Lane and Cindy, and Raune and Debra and your Board have had this year. There are so many wonderful members of this association, with some very SMART people in the crowd.
We are officially a 501 c (3) organization now. We are a nonprofit educational organization focused on astronomy. We are a part of the Astronomical League and part of your dues provides you the Reflector Magazine.
It’s that time of year when our dues are requested. Our dues have remained steady for many years. We ask for $25 for single membership and $35 for family membership.
Please bring your dues to the next meeting, or if you cannot be there, please send to our PO Box.

Mars Opposition Special Viewing Event

Layout of SIU Dark Site

Some information for the Mars Opposition event. The easiest way to find the site is to enter the GPS coordinates into google maps. The entrance off Chautauqua road will have one of the two new Astronomy Observation Area banners posted at it. Public parking is noted on the map inset included below. So far, 3 of the 10 telescope pads have been spoken for so that leaves plenty of room for additional club members and general public to setup on a pad. Feel free to bring your own lawn chairs / blankets to the event and bug spray this time of year is a must. There will be a porta potty at the site, but no other facilities or vending. Personal coolers are allowed.
